I have been mostly silent about the campaign here but this video is too good to remain so (and makes me wonder if Colbert and Stewart wrote the speech for Obama)

Heh! Great lines… not the most natural delivery, though. Does Barack Obama actually have a natural sense of humor himself? I’m not so sure. He has a talent for making other people laugh to put them at ease, but I never get the feeling that there’s stuff he finds funny for its own sake, just for himself. Humor implies vulnerability, and he doesn’t ever show vulnerability. I think this might have something to do with why he’s so hard to spoof or mock on shows like SNL: there’s nothing to grab hold of.

But what I love about this are the moments where he reveals through subtle gestures that this speech is all kinda silly (like when he turns his head down and he kinda just chuckles to himself). It feels at least like a rare moment of Ombama just being Obama.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=pq4zrOoHXeg seems to have the whole video. McCain’s piece starts around 6:00; it ends by saying that Obama’s will be the “funniest fifteen minutes of your life forever.” McCain steps down at 20:10, but you should actually watch from about 19:00 since the process of handing off the microphone is so great.

(I tried posting this as myself, but somehow the blog seemed to eat it?)
