Dear lazy lazy lazy web

Category: Tech — Biella @ 10:37 am

I think it is time for me to upgrade my digital camera and while I would like a SLR, I think I am going to stick to a small non-SLR digital camera. I am looking for a high quality one, preferably with a wide-angle lens such as with this camera (which is one of my choices). Are there any cameras that folks have that they love?/hate?/recommend? Feel free to leave comments or drop me a line

  1. I have always had good experiences with Canon models. They take a little coaxing to work with Digikam, but it can be done without unreasonable fuss. Also, a card adaptor that mounts as USB storage solves that issue well. Your milage may vary, as always.

  2. I have an older lumix that I love to pieces. I was considering upgrading to one of these myself, but think I will hold off a bit and get a Sanyo-HD1000 when the newer ones come out on July 15th (and these hopefully drop another 100 bucks or so). Through I cant vouch for their image quality (yet) I suspect it is good enough. (4M stills while shooting video in HD pretty impresive)

  3. I tend to regard response time (delay between pressing the button and taking the picture, and autofocus response) as all-important.

Never met a Panasonic Lumix that didn’t do the job in that regard.

  4. Go for one you can install CHDK on, scripting cameras in BASIC would be cool.

  5. I’d highly recommend the Canon PowerShot SD870 IS Digital ELPH.

  6. The Fuji F100fd is very nice and is said to produce the best pictures among the compact digital cameras on the market today. And since Fuji now allows you to use SD cards, their cameras have become more interesting. Downside is the mediocre video function.

  7. I recently got a Lumix TZ-5, I think it is marvellous. It has no appreciable picture taking delay, a 10x optical zoom, takes sdhc cards, has a lovely screen (no viewfinder, but they are getting rarer), takes hd (720) movies (although the sound recording isn’t amazing). It is a little larger than the fx(?) series, but I love it.

Oh and it takes nice pictures too.

  8. Seconding the Lumix TZ5, I was just taking macros of ants (1cm focus distance), but I also love the 10x optical zoom. Its “intelligent” auto-everything can be wrong from time to time though, and it lacks a fully manual mode, so I still use my old Canon A95 for that kind of thing (used to have a G2, but I live in Vancouver so have learned that nothing is forever).
